This was another 'high day'. We went to Keene, TX to restock our supplies. The first thing we did was to eat lunch with Mickey, the ABC Manager. They have their own restaurant in the store. They have wonderful veggie sandwiches, soup and incredible coconut cookies.
While we were eating, Mickey introduced us to Dick Spots as he came in the door. Dick was my dad's boss when they both worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas City. He also remembered me.
Mickey's staff was wonderful in helping us re-stock the truck. We really appreciate that. We're so green that it would take forever to find everything that we need.
Later in the afternoon, I called Pastor Joe and Sherry Watts, who work for the Conference here in Texas. He was driving when I called. Within minutes, they were driving by the ABC office, so I got to see them for a couple minutes. What timing!
Joe and Sherry were also school mates at Enterprise, in the same class as my brother and the Fransiscos. Joe baptised both my sons, David and Jeff, and preformed the wedding ceremony for Jim's daughter, Kara. Joe, Sherry and I also worked several summers together as junior camp.
Then to top off an already fantastic day, we had supper with Emery and Patty Lockwood. Jim and Emery used to live a mile apart on farms in Harper, Kansas. So they've know each other all their lives too. And Emery was in the same class at Enterprise with me.
What a neat day! Oh yeah - we worked pretty hard too! And had to drive billions of miles to boot.
You know the thing about this job that I love is that we get paid to travel, meet and visit with people and read books. How much better than that can it get?
