October 10 Rapid City, SD

Our electricity went off around 10:30 P.M. last night. NO HEAT! NO WAY! Jim had to get up, get dressed again and go out to figure out what went wrong. He ended up plugging into a different camp site's plug-in and it worked.

Sometimes it's easy to say and think how unlucky we are when things like this happen. I say 'thank you, Lord'. The electricity could have gone off at 3:00 A.M., we would have gotten very cold before we noticed that we didn't have electricity. Then in the middle of the night, in the dark, cold and rain, Jim would have had to get up and make that same trip outside to figure out what was wrong. The neighbors would have been nervous if they saw him out there roaming around. (someone might have had a gun!) After he would have fixed the problem, he would have come back into a cold truck, wet. It would have taken awhile to warm up. Why am I saying all these 'could have beens'? Because I like to count my blessings and I think that this was definitely a blessing.

We woke up (warmly) to snow this morning. Probably about an inch on the ground. On our way out of town, we stopped at good ole WalMart to replenish our summer wardrobe with a couple jackets, boots and an extra quilt. Of course we have all these things - - at home.

We also noticed gas went down to $2.97. That was in Wyoming. Just over the boarder, in South Dakota, it's $3.17 a gallon.

This was just a driving day, no real work. We're staying in Rapid City to be ready for our sale tomorrow night. Where we're staying is the interesting part.

We found a camp ground that has rustic cabins (not the KOA kind). For $75. per night, we can park the truck and trailer and have electricity AND we have a 2 bedroom cabin with a kitchen and front room. Since we'll be here two nights, this will be very special. We'll actually be able to move around without bumping into each other. We feel like real people!

The other good thing about this is that the truck is leaking and our bed is wet. There's nothing quite like sleeping on a cold wet bed, unless it's sleeping on a warm, wet bed. The good thing is that it's only wet when it either rains or snows. And it's been doing that all day.
